Phonics Screening Check achievement 2023: Letter from Minister for Schools
We are delighted to receive a letter from the Minister for Schools, Damian Hinds, congratulating our team for our 2023 phonics results, for which we are in the top 3% nationally.
We also received a letter from Damian Hinds congratulating us for being in the top 200 school in the country for our Year 4 multiplication check.
Our school was inspected by Ofsted on 27 and 28 February 2024 and judged to be Outstanding in all areas. Read the full Ofsted report.
The 2022/23 academic was very special to us as it was our fifth cohort finishing their time at Evendons Primary School. We are all full of pride as the children embark on their next step in their journey; they are a real credit to our school and our community.
The tables below will break down the school’s performance from Reception to Year 6. Our performance at each key stage will be compared to Evendons performance in each assessment area with averages for primary schools in Wokingham borough and the national averages across primary schools.

KS2 Data 2022-2023
The number of Evendons children achieving combined EXS (age related standard or above) across Reading, Writing and Maths exceeded both Wokingham and national averages. The same can be said for the numbers of children achieving a GDS (greater depth score).
The Reading paper saw our children achieve higher than national rates, both in those reaching the age related standard (EXS) and our children who achieved greater depth scores (GDS). When compared with local Wokingham results we again achieved higher rates of children reaching EXS, although we saw a slight shortfall of children reaching GDS.
This was a brilliant effort from the three, tricky texts which they were assessed on.
The Writing paper saw our children achieve higher than both Wokingham and national averages in all areas.
In Maths, our children achieved higher than national averages in all areas but we were slightly below Wokingham rates. However, after analysing the children’s assessment papers there were a number of children who missed EXS by only one scaled mark. This would have taken the children’s achievements to 89% for EXS.
Finally, within Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GPS) our children achieved higher than national rates in all areas. When compared to Wokingham we had a higher number of children achieving ECS with a slight shortfall of children reaching GDS.
Overall, our children and staff should be very proud of last year’s achievements.

Phonics Screening
With the support of our brilliant KS1 team, we had a considerably higher number of children achieving a pass mark in their phonics screening assessment than the rates seen both locally and nationally. 97% of our children passed their phonics screening, which will set them up for continued success as they move into Year 2. The children, staff and parents should be extremely proud.
Our Year 2 results saw higher numbers of children achieving EXS+ when compared to Wokingham and national averages in all areas of assessment. We also saw higher numbers of children achieving GDS in all areas with the exception of Maths, where we saw a slight dip of 1% below the Wokingham rate. Our Year 2 children and their parents should be proud of their achievements as they enter KS2.
KS1 Data 2022-23
Reception- Good Levels of Development
The Reception team work tirelessly with our newest children to ensure a smooth transition into life at Evendons Primary School. We are extremely proud of our team, parents and Reception children as they achieved higher than Wokingham and national averages in their Early Learning Goals.
Year 4- Multiplication Check (MTC)
During their earlier years at Evendons the Year 4 children have regularly practised their times table knowledge in order to prepare them for upper key stage 2. We are extremely proud that our Year 4 children achieved a higher average score in the assessment than those seen both in Wokingham and nationally. We were also the highest achieving BPET school.
