Educational visits and visitors
At our school, we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom walls. Our curriculum is brought vividly to life through a rich programme of visits and visitors, carefully chosen, to spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and inspire a love of learning.
Children regularly step into the world beyond school, visiting museums, exhibitions, theatres and cultural events where they can see, touch, and engage with real artefacts and dynamic displays—experiences that ignite imagination and connect learning to the wider world.
Equally, we bring the world into school. From puppeteers and dancers to craftspeople and storytellers, our visitors provide hands-on, authentic experiences that enrich our topics and help children see the real-world relevance of their learning.
We are committed to ensuring that every child enjoys at least one educational visit or visitor experience every term. Through these powerful experiences, we aim to create lasting memories, nurture curiosity, and develop confident, connected learners who see the world as full of possibility.
Residential Visits
We would like all children to make a residential visit every year. The length, location and nature of the visit will be age and developmentally appropriate for the year group and follow our vision. The following visits have been organised:
- Reception: overnight camping, 1 night, with parents at school
- Year 1: overnight camping, 1 night, without parents, at school
- Year 2: 1 night, overnight in the main house at Ufton Court
- Year 3: 2 nights, at Mill on the Brue, Somerset
- Year 4: 3 nights, at The Sustainability Centre
- Year 5: 4 nights, at Hooke Court, Dorset
- Year 6: 6 nights, at Rhos-y-Gwaliau, North Wales.
Residential visits for our youngest children are more about sleeping in a new place, and this provides sufficient adventure. For our 7 and 8 year-olds, visits may have activities that are more adventurous such as orienteering and climbing.
Visits are therefore progressive, and children will have an expectation that they will have greater challenges and may accomplish more as they grow older.
Costs
Parents are always informed in advance and, while contributions are requested, we work to ensure that cost is never a barrier to participation. Costs for all visits are met by parents; families with pupils attracting a Pupil Premium Grant should discuss costs with the Senior Leadership Team.
