School history
Our school is steeped in history. The original building pre-dated 1785; it was home to Winston Churchill's daughter, Mary Soames, during World War II (1939-1945), and then opened in 1948 as the White House Preparatory School. Unfortunately, nothing of the original building has survived until today.
The oldest parts of today's building are on the right of the main entrance and the small nurture room on the first floor. The small hall on the ground floor - used today as the music room - is the next oldest area.
In 2014 new life was brought to it by a group of parents who founded today's Evendons (as part of the free schools programme) and named it ‘Evendons Primary School’.
Our school was set up as STEM school (science, technology, engineering and maths) because Wokingham is in the heart of the UK Silicon Valley, and is viewed as one of the most economically vibrant and well connected communities in the UK. The Silicon Valley is home to some of the world’s most successful global tech brands such as Microsoft, Oracle, Vodafone, Deloitte, Adobe, Sisco and 3M.
The new school building was completed in January 2018, with an extension added in 2024 to accommodate the growing numbers of families wanting to have their children educated at Evendons.
