Sustainability in action
Our vision is that children will leave Evendons equipped with the knowledge and skills to champion the environment and work passionately toward a sustainable future. We want pupils to retain their enthusiasm for driving positive change in their local community, becoming responsible citizens who know how to make a difference for the planet, and inspire others to do the same.

Let’s Go Zero & Net Zero Accelerator Programme Pathfinder
We are proud to be a part of our trust-wide pledge to aim for zero carbon emissions by 2030. See how schools within the trust are working towards this goal: BPET Let’s Go Zero 2030.
We have also been chosen as one of the 50 schools in the country to be part of the Net Zero Accelerator Programme Pathfinder. The aim of the programme is to find - and scale up across the country - decarbonisation initiatives across the education estates. The main points the programme look at:
- Enable climate resilience by reducing harmful carbon emissions
- Make cost savings by reducing energy consumption
- Reduce waste inefficiency
- Create shared learning experiences on climate action change
- Set the standard for a net zero accelerator national rollout.
Evendons Eco Committee
Our Eco Committee, made up of pupils, surveyed our school and created our first Eco Code. The Eco Committee was also involved in environmental surveys and had lots of ideas for improving the school grounds which are the basis for our work towards Eco-Schools accreditation.
Each member of the Eco Committee is an Eco Champion. Their role is to:
- Attend regular meetings to share ideas about how to improve the local environment
- Work towards the Eco Schools Award
- Carry out surveys within the school to measure improvements
- Discuss next steps and record these in the meeting minutes
- Feedback to their own class about actions that they have decided should be taken
- Bring their classmates ideas to the committee (pupil voice)
- To present class assemblies and to assist the Eco Lead teacher in whole school assemblies.
'Eco-Schools Green Flag' Accreditation
What is Eco-Schools?
The Eco-Schools programme provides a simple, seven-step framework that empowers young people to make a difference in their school, local community and beyond and is recognised by the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag.
Schools match their activities to three or more of the 10 Eco-Schools Topics. These topics break large, global issues like climate change into more manageable and directed themes that prompt young people to consider environmental changes that they can make in their school and everyday lives.
The Seven Step Framework and 10 Topics
The Eco-Schools program requires schools to follow a seven step path to accreditation by focussing on three of the ten improvement areas.
In 2022-2023, we have chosen to work on the areas of transport, waste and school grounds. Guided by some teachers, the Eco-committee members (our Eco-champions) worked hard to complete the steps and record the evidence. They involved their classmates by feeding back on progress and taking their ideas about new projects for the committee to consider.
