Transition from Year 2 to 3
The transition from year 2 to 3 is expected to be smooth and no different to any other year to year transition point in the school. With excellent handover practice between teachers, there is an expectation that children will continue to build on their learning. Assessment systems, curriculum planning and provision is consistent throughout the school and all key stage 1 and 2 year groups are using the new National Curriculum and corresponding assessment systems from 2015.
The House system continues to provide opportunities for children to work regularly on a variety of areas of school life:
- School life and wellbeing
- Technology and e-safety
As our pupils move up through the school and become juniors, they will increasingly lead their peers in these areas as we help them to develop their understanding of democracy, showing tolerance of and respect for the rights of others; not undermining fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
Other opportunities to work across the school, such as lunchtimes and House Days, provide our junior children with opportunities to lead their peers and teach others by modelling, a principle of Evendons Primary School.
The curriculum increasingly becomes more complex and challenging as pupils strive to achieve and exceed the year by year outcomes of the National Curriculum. The exciting curriculum at Evendons Primary School provides breadth here as juniors continue to participate and plan the thematic learning of House Days and take part in the range of extra-curricular clubs.
In year 6, pupils will take the statutory tests in line with all maintained schools and this will allow us to benchmark their attainment and progress against pupils from other schools.
Partnerships and visits to maintained secondary and independent senior schools will be established as part of a comprehensive programme in year 6 to ensure transition is once again smooth and learning uninterrupted as they move into year 7.
