Ofsted

Five years ago, a group of local parents set about applying to the Department for Education to open a new school in the Evendons area. Two years later, that school opened its doors for the first time to 100 new pupils.

During the last three years we have faced many challenges – particularly with the building works and space but everyone, from founders, to Governors, to the leadership team, to the staff, parents and children has worked tirelessly to create what we think is an outstanding school.

It gives me immense pleasure to congratulate our Staff, children, Parents, Founders and Governors and the wider school community on the OUTSTANDING grading we have now received from Ofsted. I am proud to say that following an Ofsted inspection on 27th and 28th June 2017, Evendons Primary School achieved an Outstanding grade overall. For a new school this is a fantastic achievement! The full report is available here. If you would like a hard copy, please ask in the office.

Evendons is an Outstanding school where…staff, governors, parents and pupils all work together to form a harmonious community where pupils excel

The Inspection team judged the school to be Outstanding in ALL categories which include: the effectiveness of leadership and management; personal development, behaviour and welfare; outcomes for pupils; the quality of teaching, learning and assessment; and the effectiveness of the Early Years provision.

We are very proud to be the first primary school in Wokingham to achieve an Ofsted Outstanding grading under the new framework in all categories. This is a coveted designation that reflects the commitment and hard work of all our key stakeholders. We are absolutely delighted that the Ofsted Inspection Team has recognised the amazing work that is carried out at our school.

It was a very proud yet humbling experience to hear a group of external reviewers talk so passionately and positively about our school. Our staff were able to showcase the exceptional teaching and high expectations we have at Evendons, with the team noting that teachers “use their excellent subject knowledge to plan and teach lessons which enthuse pupils in their learning”. Alongside this, our children displayed their typical mature and respectful behaviour around school; a testament to the hard work and shared vision we all have for our school.

Pupils’ excellent behaviour and determination to work hard allow them to flourish. Pupils are friendly and respectful

The inspection team was notably impressed with all areas of teaching and achievement.

Leaders at all levels ensure that staff develop their skills very well. Leaders’ constant drive for further improvement means that the school is well placed to continue to thrive as it grows to capacity

In addition to this, the inspectors recognised the contribution that is made from learning beyond the classroom. They spoke highly of the social, moral, spiritual and cultural development of our children where British values underpin the ethos at Evendons. A crucial element of this are the shared vision and values we have and promote at Evendons; Nurture, Inspire and Flourish, all of which were clearly seen throughout the school by the inspection team over the course of the two days.

…pupils celebrate diversity and display fundamental British values very well. They are being exceptionally well prepared for life in a modern Britain

It is an honour and privilege to lead Evendons to the school that it is today. Greatness comes with hard work, determination, time and patience. It does not come with the achievement of perfection but through the struggles, challenges and joys of trying to achieve perfection.

But the journey does not end here. We now begin the next chapter of our journey of Outstanding and promise that as a school we will continue to have our childrens’ progress and well being at the core of everything we do. We will not falter from the high expectations we have of our children and that they have of us. With all the exciting opportunities the new building will offer to us in 2017 / 18, next year will enable us to build on the excellent foundations we already have in place.

Finally, I would like to say a special thank you to the founder group that had that initial vision and worked tirelessly to set the school up, to our fabulous team of staff, governors and volunteers that nurture and inspire the children, enabling them to flourish, and to our parents and carers for believing in that initial vision and taking the step in applying to the school. This would not have been possible without the community working together. You really have been outstanding. Thank you.
