Y2 Teacher – Gade Class
Fran began her teaching career in September 2007. In 2012, Fran achieved her MA in Education. Her final dissertation focussed on transition between Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1. Also in 2012, Fran was promoted to Science and ICT Leader. Fran is experienced in teaching phonics, and considers this to be one of her areas of expertise. Fran enjoyed maths at school, and says that her maths teacher inspired her to continue with the subject to A level. Conscious that girls are often not encouraged with maths as a subject, Fran’s first Masters dissertation was about girls’ play preferences and their maths learning. She enjoys teaching maths today and engaging children who might not initially take to the subject. Outside of the classroom, Fran enjoys Zumba and socialises with friends. She enjoys spending time walking in Devon.

Michelle’s first experience of education was during her travels of the world, when she found herself teaching between two primary schools in Uganda. The experience really inspired her love of education and her desire to teach which set her off on her teaching career path. After qualifying she worked in several primary schools before joining Evendons. As well as an academic background in Geography and Modern History, Michelle has experience of teaching PE to young children. Michelle is very active, and loves to spend time in the natural environment, walking, climbing and cycling. She has family living all over the country so in her spare time enjoys visiting relatives and exploring some of the most beautiful areas of the country. Michelle also has a love of Ballroom and Latin dancing, taking this to competition level (although, unfortunately never winning anything!!) She does however continue to dance as a hobby in order to keep fit and have fun!

Sam gained Qualified Teacher Status in July 2014, having completed the University of Reading PGCE course with an Early Years specialism. Specialising in Early Years allowed Sam to spend her school placements in Year 1 and Reception classes in local Wokingham schools, which she thoroughly enjoyed and learnt a tremendous amount from. Sam’s expertise is in Phonics, Literacy and Languages, having completed an undergraduate degree in Linguistic Science at the University of York. She enjoys learning about the English language and different languages, and hopes to inspire her class to share this enthusiasm. Sam sees the STEM focus at Evendons as an exciting prospect, and believes it gives lessons a meaningful, memorable context which will inspire children to discover learning more independently. Sam enjoys spending her spare time socialising with family and friends, visiting the theatre, reading and a range of creative activities such as drawing, singing and cooking.

Emily joined Evendons September 2016 after completing a BA in Primary Education with a specialism of science. She thoroughly enjoys learning and teaching science and wrote her dissertation on the impact outdoor learning can have on the teaching of science. She has undertaken a lot of research on the positive impact outdoor learning can have on children and is excited to have the opportunity to work in a school with the facilities to do this. During her degree, Emily had the opportunity to work with a range of different schools and age groups which gave a broad experience across the year groups. This included a 2 week extended project which she undertook in a primary school in Australia. Emily found it very interesting to compare the similarities and differences to how we teach in the UK. Emily has also been to The Gambia where she had the opportunity to spend some time in a school which was a very eye opening experience. In her spare time, Emily enjoys catching up with her friends and family, visiting new countries, reading a good book, going swimming and baking yummy cakes.
