Reception and Year 1 Phase Leader
Emily’s main area of expertise is with Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), having always taught a mixture of Nursery or Reception children. Emily has also done a lot of work on developing outdoor learning which is where her main passion in education lies. She has travelled to Norway to see how kindergartens over there use the outdoors to enhance learning. Emily strongly believes in promoting tolerance, respect and trust so that the children develop into caring, responsible young people. Outside of school Emily is interested in the natural world, always having had a love of animals, as well as sailing and jewellery-making. She is also a bit of a baking enthusiast and loves to experiment with different cake concoctions!
Emily joined Evendons in September 2018 after spending three years at the University of Warwick studying Childhood, Education and Society and a further year at the University of Reading completing her PGCE in Primary Education. During this time, Emily lived and taught in Sweden for four months; the experience enabled her to explore the use of the outdoors and gain an insight into the positive impact it can have on a child’s learning and development. She went on to explore this in further detail in her dissertation which was centred around outdoor risky play in Sweden. Outside of school Emily enjoys spending time with her friends and family, travelling and cooking/baking.

During Evendons’ inaugural year, Sarah spent five weeks working closely with all year groups looking deeply at how children understand every day mathematics. She was so inspired by her experience that she was keen to come back and join the team. As part of her continued research Sarah is exploring the language adults and children use on a daily basis – much of it mathematical – and its impact on children and their learning. Passionate about nurturing the whole child through many mediums as well as creating an environment in which mistakes are part of everyday learning, Sarah is eager to ensure that the children continue their journey through Evendons highly engaged.
Sarah is mum to a son aged 10 and a daughter aged 12 (who is in another STEM school – Bohunt Secondary School). In her spare time Sarah enjoys all aspects of art, craft and sewing as well as baking, bike-rides and taking her children on trips away.
